Deployment with language packs: How to make the "Metro" app langauges change quicker.

Hi.

We are doing a 4 language deployment (English as base and 3 other LIP languages).

This works fine, and when the PC is started after sysprep, we can choose which language to use.

Everything is in that language, and when checking "Copy settings" on the "Region and Languages", everything is correct.

But, the "Metro" default apps are still in English. They stay English until either the custom updates their apps or after a very long time.

I understand that LIP language packs don't include "Metro" apps? But there must be a way of getting the right language shown in "Metro" after OOBE...?

One other thing.

When we use a Windows 8.1 Update 1 ISO as a base and install all updates and LIP's, then only "Mail", "Calender", "People", "Sports", "Maps" and "Reading List" are in English. All other in the chosen language and all news, food and health entries are in the chosen language.

But when using a Windows 8.1 Update 3 ISO (November rollup and install all updates and LIP's, then only "Photos" and "Desktop are in the chosen language, all other are in English including all entries in news, health and food.

Why is that?

Hi John,

It's hard to achieve this.

Since many apps in the Windows Store support more than one language. How you change the language that's used depends on the app some apps include a language setting, some apps use your language preferences for Windows, and some built-in apps require you to change the Windows display language for your PC.

For further information, please follow this guide to change its display language:

Hi Karen.

We are talking about the native Microsoft apps. It shouldn't be so hard getting these to display in the chosen language.

I just ran a test on Windows 8 (built in the same way), and there all apps showed the chosen language at startup.

When using Windows 8.1 Update 1, all are in the chosen language except 6 apps.

When using Windows 8.1 Update 3 (Nov rollup), all but 2 are now in English, and all feeds are in English.

Something has changed, and the first user experience has gotten much worse.

It does eventually change into the right language, but unless the customer starts a Store app update, it seems to take several days.

It now seems quite broken.

Hi,

Same problem here with finnish language and BUILT-IN Apps (People, Calendar, Mail, News etc are in english but Windows Store and Pictures are in Finnish). When I update and customize the image in hyper-v I must log into Windows store and update modern apps to get them to the right language. This however doesn't happen to new user profiles until you Copy the settings. After this the virtual machine is fine but when I sysprep and deploy the image the problem comes back. Several built-in apps are in english although the rest of the operating system is in finnish.

I've tried this with couple fresh images but I can't get it working with the most recent updates (All updates including december rollup).

Could this be the procedure to get BUILT-IN apps working with correct language?

After all the language changes if I update apps for the current user. The procedure described behind the link could replicate the result of the updating apps to the all new profiles aswell even after the image is sysprepped and deployed.

Hi,

Make sure you have enable the setting below:

And when you capture the image, the installed language would not be wiped. This is really odd symptom. I have submitted this feedback and we need more time to reproduce this issue. Please keep focus on this thread.

Tried this, didn't help.

Hi,

This issue indeed exists based on our test. Sometime, they need to update the display language manually. There is no method to resolve this issue so far. I have submitted this known issue, our develop team will improve it.

Thanks for your feedback and understanding.

Hi.

Is there any update on this issue.

I'm currently using Update 1 on all of our deployment due to this problem. I would like for our customers to get the Update 3 from us.

But first this needs to be fixed.

Hello,

There would be a scheduled task which would have to run per user to check for updates from the Windows Store. The app would have to update the language resources for the installed languages at this time.

The App Resources are actually removed via another task to free up disk space, which you could disable.
